Pucker Up! Mixed Media Project
It's a sunny day in Lemonade Land where lemony lollipops grow wild and fresh squeezed lemonade is still only five cents! Do you love lemonade? This little girl scene is my contest entry. I actually created a whole collection around this tart and tasty theme. Please view the Pucker Up! Collection with coordinates here.
I decided to approach this design as if I were creating a mixed media piece using watercolor paint, actual fabric swatches, lace, machine sewing, embroidery and colored pencils. Each vignette was scanned, further edited, and a background color added.
The next photo displays the easy steps I used for each motif within this design.
I used my own actual fabric swatch designs for the applique pieces and some lace I had laying around. Mixed media art is a great way to use those extra swatches! And the best part is embellishing with beads, buttons, ribbon or anything else you happen to find in your crafting stash.
Once scanned, use a photo editing software like Photoshop to combine all your little art pieces into a repeating pattern. Use the offset feature to move things around and continue adding motifs. I added some little hand drawn flowers, butterflies and used a brush to create splashes of lemony sunlight.
Helpful Tip: You’ll want to use a sharp needle in your machine so it moves through the paper with ease. Also use an embroidery needle for the hand stitching because it has a narrower head on it and won’t put large holes in the paper.
I dedicate this one to my Auntie Louise because she not only enjoys her lemon water, but she herself is so darn nice and cute. ♥
